Information Generation Lighting Collects

When you browse our chandelier collections, review product specifications for pendant lights, or subscribe to our lighting design updates, Generation Lighting collects information in three primary ways: directly from you, automatically through your device, and from our trusted partners.

Information You Provide Directly: When you join our email list for fixture announcements or contact us about installation questions, we collect your name, email address, and any details you share in your message. We do not collect payment information — all purchases are completed through Amazon, where their payment security standards apply.

Information Collected Automatically: As you explore our fixture categories, our systems log your device type, browser version, IP address, operating system, and the pages you view. When you click a product link and visit Amazon to purchase a wall sconce or flush mount, our affiliate tracking records that referral. We use industry-standard cookies and similar technologies to recognize your browser across visits and understand how people navigate our lighting catalog.

Information from Third Parties: Our Amazon Associates partnership provides anonymized data about which fixture categories drive the most engagement. Google Analytics tells us which lighting guides visitors find most useful. These services operate under their own privacy policies, but the data they share with us helps us improve how we present chandelier specifications, pendant sizing recommendations, and installation resources.

How We Use Your Information at Generation Lighting

Every piece of data we collect serves a defined purpose in helping you find the right lighting fixture for your space. We use your information to:

  • Respond to your questions about chandelier dimensions, sconce placement, or LED compatibility
  • Send you fixture launch announcements and lighting design tips (only if you’ve subscribed)
  • Track which product categories receive the most attention, so we know whether to expand our outdoor lighting selection or add more bathroom vanity options
  • Earn affiliate commissions when you purchase fixtures through our Amazon links — this revenue funds the detailed product photography and installation guides we create
  • Detect technical issues, like broken product links or pages that load slowly on mobile devices
  • Comply with legal obligations, such as responding to valid law enforcement requests

We will never sell your email address to third-party marketers. Generation Lighting does not create customer profiles for advertising purposes beyond the basic affiliate tracking inherent in our Amazon partnership.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies Generation Lighting Uses

Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device to remember your preferences and track your activity. Generation Lighting uses three types of cookies across our lighting catalog:

Essential Cookies: These keep our site functional — they remember your location preference (U.S. versus international) and maintain your browsing session as you move from our chandelier gallery to our pendant selection. You cannot disable these cookies without breaking core site features.

Analytics Cookies: Google Analytics places cookies to measure how many people visit our fixture pages, how long they spend reading installation guides, and which product links they click before heading to Amazon. This data is aggregated and anonymized — we see trends like “100 people viewed the linear chandelier page this week,” not “John Smith from Nashville viewed it on Tuesday.”

Advertising Cookies: As an Amazon Associate, we participate in Amazon’s affiliate tracking system. When you click a product link on Generation Lighting and make a purchase on Amazon within 24 hours, Amazon’s cookies connect that sale back to our referral, and we earn a small commission. These cookies do not track your activity on other websites outside the Amazon ecosystem.

Managing Your Cookie Preferences: Most browsers let you refuse cookies or delete existing ones through your settings menu. Be aware that blocking essential cookies may prevent certain site features from working. Blocking analytics cookies will not affect your browsing experience, but it will limit our ability to improve the site based on usage patterns. To opt out of Amazon’s advertising cookies specifically, visit Amazon’s advertising preferences page.

How Generation Lighting Shares Your Information

We share your data with a limited set of trusted partners, and only when necessary to operate our lighting catalog and fulfill our affiliate obligations:

Service Providers: Our email platform (used for newsletter delivery) and our web hosting provider (which stores our fixture images and installation guides) have access to your information solely to perform their contracted services. They are prohibited from using your data for their own purposes.

Amazon Associates Program: When you click a product link and Amazon’s cookies confirm a subsequent purchase, Amazon shares anonymized referral data with us — enough to calculate our commission, but not enough to identify you personally. Amazon handles all payment processing and shipping; Generation Lighting never sees your credit card details or delivery address.

Legal Requirements: We will disclose your information if required by a valid subpoena, court order, or other legal process. We may also share data to prevent fraud, protect our legal rights, or ensure the safety of our users and the public.

Business Transfers: If Generation Lighting is acquired by another company or merges with a partner, your information would transfer to the new entity as part of that transaction. The acquiring company would be bound by this Privacy Policy unless they provide notice of changes.

We do not sell your personal information to data brokers or advertising networks. We do not rent email lists.

Data Security Measures at Generation Lighting

We protect your information using industry-standard security practices: our website uses HTTPS encryption to secure data transmission, our servers employ firewalls and intrusion detection systems, and access to personal data is restricted to employees who need it to perform their jobs (customer service, email campaigns). However, no online system is completely invulnerable. While we take reasonable precautions, we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, hacking, or data breaches will never occur. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

Your Privacy Rights Under U.S. Data Protection Laws

Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights regarding your personal information. Generation Lighting respects the following frameworks:

Rights for All Users: Regardless of location, you can unsubscribe from our email list at any time using the link at the bottom of every newsletter. You can also contact us to request that we delete your email address from our records.

GDPR (European Union Residents): If you are located in the EU, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, request corrections to inaccurate information, ask us to delete your data (“right to be forgotten”), restrict how we process your data, object to certain types of processing, and receive a copy of your data in a portable format. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe we have violated GDPR requirements.

CCPA / CPRA (California Residents): California law grants you the right to know what personal information we collect, the sources we collect it from, the purposes we use it for, and which third parties we share it with. You can request that we delete your personal information (with certain exceptions for legal obligations). You have the right to opt out of the “sale” of personal information — though Generation Lighting does not sell data in the traditional sense, our Amazon affiliate relationship may qualify as a “share” under California’s broad definition. You can exercise this opt-out right by contacting us. You have the right to correct inaccurate personal information. California law prohibits us from discriminating against you for exercising these rights (we will not deny service, charge different prices, or provide a lower quality experience).

VCDPA (Virginia), CPA (Colorado), CTDPA (Connecticut), UCPA (Utah): If you reside in one of these states, you have similar rights to California residents: the right to confirm whether we process your personal data, access that data, delete it, obtain a portable copy, and opt out of targeted advertising and the sale of personal data. These laws also allow you to correct inaccuracies. State-specific nuances exist, but the core rights align closely with CCPA.

How to Exercise Your Rights: To submit a privacy request, email us at privacy@generationlightingshop.com with “Privacy Rights Request” in the subject line. Include your full name, the email address you used on our site, and specify which right you wish to exercise (access, deletion, correction, opt-out). We will respond within 30 to 45 days, as required by the applicable law governing your request. We may ask for additional information to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.

Children’s Privacy and Generation Lighting

Our lighting catalog is designed for homeowners, interior designers, and contractors — audiences we expect to be adults. Generation Lighting does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years old, as defined by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Our website does not offer content specifically directed at children. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, we will delete that data promptly. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, contact us immediately at privacy@generationlightingshop.com so we can address the situation.

Links to Amazon and Other External Sites

Generation Lighting provides direct links to product pages on Amazon.com, where you can purchase the chandeliers, pendants, sconces, and other fixtures we feature. When you click one of these links, you leave our website and enter Amazon’s domain. Amazon operates under its own privacy policy, which governs how they collect, use, and protect your payment information, shipping address, and browsing history on their platform. We encourage you to review Amazon’s privacy practices before completing a purchase.

Occasionally, we may link to manufacturer websites (for technical specifications), lighting design blogs, or installation tutorial videos hosted on third-party platforms. These external sites are not under Generation Lighting’s control, and we are not responsible for their privacy policies or data practices. Clicking a third-party link is done at your own discretion.

International Data Transfers from Generation Lighting

Generation Lighting operates primarily in the United States, and our servers are located in U.S. data centers. If you access our website from outside the United States — whether you’re an interior designer in Europe browsing our chandelier gallery or a contractor in Canada reviewing pendant specifications — your information will be transferred to, stored on, and processed by servers in the U.S., where data protection laws may differ from those in your home country.

For visitors from the European Union, this transfer is necessary to provide you with access to our lighting catalog and respond to any inquiries you send us. By using our website, you consent to this transfer. We take reasonable steps to ensure that your data receives adequate protection in accordance with this Privacy Policy, even when processed in the U.S.

How Long Generation Lighting Retains Your Data

We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law or needed to resolve disputes.

Email Addresses: If you subscribe to our newsletter, we keep your email address until you unsubscribe or request deletion. If you contact us with a question about fixture installation, we retain your message for one year in case you have a follow-up inquiry.

Analytics Data: Google Analytics retains aggregated usage data (page views, click patterns, device types) for 26 months by default, after which it is automatically deleted. This data is anonymized and cannot be traced back to individual users.

Affiliate Tracking Data: Amazon’s cookies expire after 24 hours. Any referral data they share with us (to calculate commissions) is retained for seven years to comply with tax and accounting regulations.

When retention periods expire, we securely delete or anonymize your data so it can no longer identify you.

Email Communications from Generation Lighting

If you subscribe to our email list, you will receive periodic updates about new fixture launches, lighting design tips, and special promotions available through our Amazon partnership. We typically send one to two emails per month — we do not flood your inbox.

Unsubscribe Anytime: Every email includes an “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom. Click it, and you’ll be removed from our mailing list within 48 hours. You can also email us directly at info@generationlightingshop.com with “Unsubscribe” in the subject line.

Transactional Emails: If you contact us with a question, we may send a reply email to address your inquiry. These transactional messages are not promotional and do not require an unsubscribe option, but they will cease once the conversation is complete.

Do Not Track Signals and Generation Lighting

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal that requests websites not track your activity. Currently, there is no industry-wide standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. Generation Lighting does not alter its data collection practices in response to DNT browser settings. If you wish to limit tracking, you can manage cookies through your browser settings (see the “Cookies and Tracking Technologies” section above) or use privacy-focused browser extensions that block third-party trackers.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

Generation Lighting may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our data practices, new legal requirements, or enhancements to our website features. When we make significant changes — such as adding new types of data collection or modifying how we share information with third parties — we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page and, if appropriate, notify our email subscribers with a summary of the changes.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically, especially if you have concerns about how your information is used. Continued use of our website after we post changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
